If you’re driving in Dubai and want to avoid traffic jams or plan a trip to popular spots like the Dubai Mall, having a Salik tag on your car is a must.
On the other hand, a lot of drivers probably don’t know that even the slightest errors when applying or messing with the tag can cause things like the tag not reading in the toll gates.
Here are three common mistakes to avoid when installing your Salik tag:.
- Don’t remove the tag once installed: Removing the tag after placing it on your windshield can cause damage, making it unreadable.
- Don’t transfer the tag between cars: The Salik tag is meant for one vehicle only. Transferring it between cars will lead to issues.
- Avoid cutting or folding the tag: That will mess up the tag and it won’t work at toll gates.
Where to Properly Place Your Salik Tag
Salik says to put your tag in the middle at the top of your windshield, about one centimeter below the rearview mirror. For all vehicles with metallic or metallized windshields, the sticker is to be affixed in the dotted box. If your windshield has a tinted section, it’s important to position the tag on the lighter, untinted part for clear readability.
Each new Salik tag comes with detailed installation instructions to guide you through the process.
What to Do When You Get a New Car
If you change to a different car, you have to buy a new Salik tag. Multiple tags can be linked to your Salik account and managed through either the Smart Salik app (available for Apple and Android users) or the website at salik.ae.
What Happens if Your Salik Tag is Damaged?
In case your tag gets damaged, you’ll need to buy a replacement. A new Salik tag costs Dh100, which includes Dh50 for the tag and Dh50 added to your Salik balance.
