Bangladesh make history with first-ever clean sweep of Pakistan

Bangladesh has made history by achieving their first ever clean sweep of Pakistan on home soil, convincingly defeating the hosts in the two-Test series.

Bangladesh easily reached a target of 185, mainly due to Zakir Hasan’s crucial 40-run innings off 39 balls which laid a solid groundwork before he got out. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 38 runs while Mominul Haque added 34 runs.

Experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, scoring 21 runs from 43 balls, secured the victory for his team at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper batsman, was also at the crease when the winning boundary was hit, having scored 22 runs from 53 deliveries.

The win also provided a major lift to Bangladesh’s ranking in the ICC World Test Championship table.

Bangladesh started the day with a score of 42 runs and no wickets lost. Nevertheless, Zakir Hasan was sent back to the pavilion by Mir Hamza after scoring an additional 16 runs, bringing his total to 40 runs.

Shadman played a gentle shot directly to Shan Masood at mid-off, who took the catch after making 24 runs off 51 balls.

Bangladesh easily achieved a target of 185, thanks to Zakir Hasan’s important 40 runs off 39 balls that laid a strong foundation before he got out. Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 38 runs, while Mominul Haque added 34 runs. Veterans Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) then steered their team to finish the chase, securing the victory.

Beforehand, the Pakistan team got dismissed for 172 runs in their second innings, establishing a goal of 185 runs for the visitors to achieve victory.

The hosts were dismissed for a total of 274 runs during their first inning.

Pakistan’s bowlers made significant progress initially by limiting Bangladesh to 26-6. Nevertheless, Litton Das’s outstanding century enabled the away team to bounce back and ultimately score a total of 262 runs.

By the end of Day 3, Pakistan were in a difficult situation, scoring only nine runs and losing two important wickets.

On Day 4, the situation worsened as four additional important players were lost in the first session.

Hasan Mahmud’s outstanding display resulted in him taking five wickets, leading to Pakistan being dismissed for 172, leaving Bangladesh needing to chase a total of 185 runs.

Continuous rain and a wet outfield caused the first day’s play between the two teams to be called off, leading to the toss being unable to take place due to bad weather.

In the previous month, Bangladesh achieved a significant 10-wicket win against Pakistan in the first Test of their two-game series in Rawalpindi.

According to the ICC, Bangladesh achieved their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan in 14 matches, which consisted of 12 losses and one draw.

Bangladesh has only India and South Africa left to defeat in Test cricket, after this significant win.

Even though the game was postponed because of a damp outfield, it evolved into an exciting competition by the fifth day.
