UAE introduces digital parking permits for people of determination

The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination revealed on Sunday, September 1, that parking permits for people of determination (PoD) in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have transitioned to digital format.

This change removes the requirement for physical permits, enabling individuals with disabilities to conveniently store their permits on their mobile devices.

The organization emphasized that these electronic permits will be connected to the system for individuals who have valid permits from Abu Dhabi or Dubai. The organization stated that travelling between the two emirates has become easier and more convenient thanks to this digital service.

In Abu Dhabi, individuals with determination are allowed to park for free in paid areas, while in Dubai, charges will still apply for parking in paid spaces.

Salama Al Reyami, head of networks and operations at Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, stated that the project represents a fresh initiative in enhancing the well-being of individuals with disabilities.

She mentioned that we are moving forward in promoting sustainability and digital transformation to build a brighter future and facilitate upcoming challenges.

In the meantime, individuals with disabilities in Sharjah were no longer required to display their ID cards on their car windshields to avail of complimentary parking. Beginning in May, their cards were connected to the public parking system of the municipality in an automated manner.

It is important to mention that individuals of determination in the UAE are eligible to request a complimentary parking permit. The whole procedure is costless, simple, and quick. This is also achievable through the internet.
