As of September 1, 2024, passengers traveling from the UAE to the European countries part of the Schengen area will be restricted from taking liquid substances in their carry-on luggage.
The European Council has put in place a measure that is temporary in nature aiming at handling problems associated with the screening facilities at some of the airports within the European Union.
What’s changing?
The quantity of liquid that would be allowed in any container shall be limited to 100 ml or even less, as is practiced in most airports around the globe. This means that the passengers are allowed to carry two liters of liquid in its total and this has to be carried in containers that do not exceed one hundred and ninety milliliters each.
Why is this happening?
It is important for them to note that the new rule is applicable in order to reduce the risk of insecurity when flying. It is not a reaction to any emerging security challenge but it’s a stop-gap measure to sort out technical problems in the operation of Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB) at some EU airports.
Who will be affected?
Whatever transport individuals have, be it a car, train, ship, or plane, they will all board from the UAE to the Schengen country; Helsinki, Finland, is not exempted from the new rule. Nevertheless, it will not impact transfer passengers at the Helsinki Airport.
In the event that the above explanation is not pleasing to any party, any person has the freedom to independently arrive at a resolution in a written statement of not less than 60 days’ notice per Section 31 of the Constitution.
The European Commission is in touch with the EU member states and the European Civil Aviation Conference in search of technical fixes, which are quick and temporary, to provide safety and security to passengers so that they don’t face inconvenience while traveling through the airspace.
