British curriculum students studying in UAE and Qatar schools were delighted as they sat for their IGCSE/GCSE exams, which they received on August 22.
International schooling network GEMS Education, which operates a number of schools following the British curriculum in the region, reported that the summer examination series of 2024 closed on a high.
This year, 3,800 students from 23 GEMS schools in UAE and Qatar have appeared for more than 26400 IGCSE/GCSE papers. The summary demonstrated excellent performances, as 14% of all the entries from a GEMS network got a grade 9 or A*, 22% got between 9-8 (A*), 40% got between 9-7 (A-A), 60% got between 9-6 (A-B), and 83% got between 9-4 (A-C).
Jumeirah College Dubai was the standout again with 27 percent of GCSE entries receiving grade 9, and 85 percent of learners attaining grades 9-6 (A*-B). GEMS Wellington International School also did very well, gaining 26% of its entries in grade 9 or A* and 81% of entries in the 9-6 range (A*-B). For GEMS Cambridge International Private School–Sharjah 45 percent of entries got grades 9-8 (A*).
Others were GEMS Wellington Academy-Silicon Oasis with 60% for grades 9-6 (A*-B); GEMS FirstPoint School – The Villa; GEMS Metropole School – Motor City receiving 55% and 56% respectively in the same subject grades 9-6 (A*-B).
Dr. Saima Rana, the Deputy CEO of GEMS Education, responded to the achievements of the students and motivated them before getting to the next level. ‘Regardless of the path you are going to take having A-levels or continuing the IB Diploma Programme, vocational education, and others, your teachers and school are always there to help you, encourage you, and ensure that you succeed’, she said.
Dubai British School Jumeirah Park achieved an impressive milestone by maintaining a 100% pass rate in all subjects. Principal Rebecca Couller commended the students for their hard work highlighting that 46% obtained A* and A grades with a third receiving A*. She emphasized that the students success exceeded expectations showcasing their dedication and the steadfast support from their teachers.
In a similar vein Brett Girven, principal of Dubai British School Emirates Hills praised the students for their remarkable achievements. He emphasized that while exam results are just one aspect of a student’s journey, the exceptional performance of Year 11 students this year reflects the quality of education and the dedication of the entire school community.
