French cinema legend Alain Delon has passed away at the age of 88, his family announced on Sunday.
The renowned actor, who had been battling health issues for some time, died peacefully at his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children—Alain Fabien, Anouchka, and Anthony—and his beloved dog, Loubo.
In a heartfelt statement released to the press, the Delon family expressed their deep sorrow over the loss and requested privacy during this difficult time. “He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his three children and his family,” the statement read.
Alain Delon was a cinematic giant, celebrated for his unforgettable performances in classic films such as “Purple Noon” (1960) and “Le Samouraï” (1967). Despite his immense fame, Delon had largely retreated from the public eye since the 1990s, making few screen appearances.
In 2023, Delon’s name made headlines when his three children filed a complaint against his live-in assistant, Hiromi Rollin, accusing her of harassment and threatening behavior. The family dispute played out publicly, with concerns over Delon’s health coming to light, especially after he suffered a stroke in 2019.
Delon’s final significant public appearance was in May 2019, when he graced the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival to receive an honorary Palme d’Or, a fitting tribute to his illustrious career.
The film world has lost a true icon, and Alain Delon’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of actors and filmmakers.
