India declines hosting Women’s T20 World Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) proposal to host the 2017 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The event is slated to take place in Bangladesh from October 3 to 20, but worries over the country’s current circumstances have forced the ICC to look into alternate locations.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated that the cricket body got a formal invitation from the ICC to serve as the host nation, but rejected.

Shah highlighted the ongoing monsoon season in India and the country’s commitment to hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup next year as the key factors for the decision.

“The ICC approached us about hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup, but we politely refused,” Shah said. “India is in the midst of its monsoon season, and we are already preparing to host the Women’s One-Day International World Cup next year. It would be impossible to organize two major women’s cricket championships consecutively.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has acknowledged Bangladesh’s concerns and is constantly watching the situation. The final decision on whether or not to move the event is due on August 20.

If Bangladesh is unable to host the tournament, other nations like as Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates have been considered as possible options.
