Back-to-School preparation: MOHAP’s essential tips for UAE parents

As the new school year approaches, the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has advised parents to prioritize planning to ensure a smooth transition for their children back to school.

The ministry has issued several essential tips aimed at helping parents prepare effectively.

Parents are encouraged to create a to-do list to tackle important tasks before the school year begins. This includes purchasing school supplies in advance to avoid last-minute stress. Establishing a daily schedule with consistent times for sleep, study, and play is also recommended to maintain a steady routine for children.

MOHAP highlights the importance of creating a comfortable and tidy study space at home, which can enhance a child’s focus and productivity. Parents should also communicate with the school or teachers to stay informed about any new information or requirements for the upcoming year. Discussing the new school year with children and encouraging them with positive motivation can help ease any anxiety they may have about returning to school.

Budgeting for school expenses is another crucial step, helping parents prevent overspending and manage their finances better. Additionally, selecting extracurricular activities that align with a child’s interests while not interfering with their study or sleep schedules is important for maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

When it comes to nutrition, MOHAP has urged parents to be mindful of packing healthy lunchboxes for their children. By choosing nutritious foods, parents can support their child’s overall health and development. The ministry advises including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain products like whole wheat bread and brown rice, and healthy drinks, with water being the most important. Parents are also encouraged to avoid processed and sugary snacks, opting instead for wholesome alternatives. Purchasing only necessary items can minimize waste and ensure that lunchbox contents remain fresh.

In addition to these preparations, health professionals have reminded parents of the importance of the 2024-25 flu vaccine, which has been released. Vaccination against Influenza A and B is crucial for protecting children as they return to school, especially during the flu season.
