Abu Dhabi and Dubai shine as top liveable cities

Abu Dhabi and Dubai remain at the forefront as the most pleasant cities in the Middle East and Africa, according to the 2024 Global Liveability Index from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The two cities maintained their top positions and also showed significant advancements in healthcare and education, which led to their enhanced scores.

According to Numbeo’s “Crime and Safety Indexes,” Abu Dhabi is recognized as one of the safest cities globally. The city achieved first place worldwide in the Safety Index with a remarkable score of 88.2 points, but it had the lowest score on the Crime Index at 11.8 points. Dubai also excelled, securing the fifth spot on the ranking of the safest cities globally.

Both cities in the healthcare sector have demonstrated significant advancements. Information from the Dubai Health Authority showed that there were a total of 5,020 healthcare facilities that were licensed and actively operating in Dubai during the first quarter of 2024. The emirate currently has 13,370 licensed doctors, showcasing its strong healthcare system.

As of early 2024, Abu Dhabi showed its dedication to healthcare excellence by having 3,323 healthcare facilities, such as 67 hospitals, 1,136 health centers, 765 clinics, 1,068 pharmacies, and 287 other healthcare establishments, in operation. At the conclusion of 2022, there were 12,922 licensed doctors practicing in the capital.

Increased attention to healthcare and education has been crucial in improving the livability ratings of both cities. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are projected to remain prominent global cities in the Middle East and Africa as these industries progress further.
