The UAE is experiencing unusual weather with heavy rains and hail reported on Monday along the Dubai-Al Ain Road and in the Masakin area of Al Ain.
Over the past couple of days, various parts of the country have seen light rain and heavy drizzles, with the forecast predicting partly cloudy to cloudy skies in most areas.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in Al Ain over the coming days, with some showers expected in Abu Dhabi. The temperature across the UAE is set to decrease by 2-3°C.
The ITCZ’s northward movement towards India during summer brings moist winds and triggers the monsoon there. This year, extreme monsoon rains have caused significant disruption in India and Pakistan. “It’s the same intertropical convergence zone affecting India and Pakistan that is now impacting the UAE, though the intensity differs due to the UAE’s position,” Dr. Habib explained.
These summer rains are expected to continue sporadically until the end of August. Humidity levels may drop to as low as 15% in the mountains and could reach up to 80% in coastal areas and islands.
Over the next few days, the UAE will see a drop in temperature by 2-3°C. Internal areas will witness maximum temperatures between 43-47°C, while coastal areas will range between 30-42°C. In mountainous parts of the country, temperatures could drop to around 25°C, and to about 28°C in internal areas. “After August 8, the temperature may rise again marginally,” added Dr. Habib.
