Pakistani writer files cyber crime complaint over viral obscene videos

Renowned playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime unit regarding the circulation of obscene videos made under duress.

In his complaint, Qamar stated that the accused deceived him, made the videos at gunpoint, and blackmailed him for a large sum of money. When he refused to pay, they released the videos online.

Qamar emphasized that the viral videos have severely damaged his reputation and demanded prompt action against the perpetrators. Cyber Crime officials have confirmed the receipt of the complaint and announced that investigations will commence shortly.

Following his recovery and the arrest of his kidnappers, the inappropriate videos have spread widely on social media, leading to significant personal repercussions for Qamar and his family. His daughter, Hijab Khalil, has faced severe online criticism and trolling.

Meaanwhile, actress Sabina Farooq has voiced her support for Hijab Khalil, condemning the bullying in an Instagram story. Farooq questioned the state of humanity, asking why Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s daughter should be targeted for her father’s situation. She urged the public not to involve children in their parents’ controversies and to show empathy.

Police reports indicate that Qamar was allegedly kidnapped and tortured on July 15, with a case registered against the accused at Sundar Police Station on July 21. The main accused, Hassan Shah, along with 12 accomplices, including a woman, are currently in police custody. The main accused was apprehended on July 28, and the videos were made viral the following day.
