Starting August 1, 2024, UAE residents planning to visit Japan will need to apply for their tourist visas through Visa Facilitation Services Global (VFS Global), as announced by the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai.
New Visa Application Process
The Japanese visa application process is undergoing significant changes. From August 1, all UAE residents, except those with diplomatic or official passports, must apply for their visas through VFS Global. There will be two new visa centres, one in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai, to handle these applications.
How to Apply for a Japan eVisa
To apply for a Japan eVisa, residents need to follow these steps:
- Identify Your Visa Type: Visit the VFS Global website to determine the requirements and costs for your visa type.
- Complete the Visa Application Form: Download, complete, and print the application form from the VFS Global website.
- Book an Appointment: Schedule an appointment through the VFS Global website by creating an account and selecting an available time slot. An appointment confirmation email will be sent with the necessary details.
- Prepare Required Documents: Bring your appointment confirmation email, valid passport, completed visa application form, supporting documents, and proof of residence to the visa application centre.
- Visit the Visa Application Centre: Submit your completed application form and required documents in person and pay the visa application fee.
- Track Your Application: After submission, you will receive email updates on your application status. You can also track your application online using the reference number provided on your receipt.
- Collect Your Passport: Once your visa is processed, you can collect your passport from the visa application centre or have it delivered by courier for an additional fee.
Processing Time and Fees
The processing time for a Japan eVisa is a minimum of 8 to 10 working days. The visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days. The general visa fee is Dh80, with a reduced fee of Dh20 for Indian nationals. Some nationalities may be exempt from the visa fee, so it’s important to check with VFS Global for eligibility. Additionally, a service fee of Dh100, including VAT, is required.
New Visa Application Centres
Depending on your place of residence, you will need to visit one of the new VFS Global centres:
- Abu Dhabi: Level B2, The Mall World Trade Centre, Khalifa Bin Zayed the 1st Street, Abu Dhabi. Open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
- Dubai: WAFI Mall, Level 2, Falcon, Phase 2, Umm Hurair 2, Dubai. Open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
Temporary Suspension of eVisa Applications
Due to the transition, eVisa applications will be suspended for the month of August and will resume in September through the VFS Global visa application centre.
This new process aims to streamline visa applications and provide a more efficient service for UAE residents planning to visit Japan.
