Pakistani singing sensation Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was detained at Dubai Airport following complaints from his former manager, Salman Ahmed.
According to initial reports, the celebrated singer was taken to the Bur Dubai police station during his stay in the UAE, where he was scheduled to perform at various musical events.
The detention stems from ongoing tensions with his former manager. Salman Ahmed has lodged legal cases against Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in Dubai and other locations.
Sources indicate that while Khan was prevented from boarding his flight and taken to the police station, he has not been formally arrested.
Meanwhile, the singer has denied he has been arrested, claiming he was called to answer questions and he submitted requests, which anyone could do.
“I was not arrested and no such incident happened,” Khan claimed, adding that he was just generally questioned at the airport.
Music director Farooq Rao claimed Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was in Dubai and not arrested. “Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is recording his songs in Dubai,” Rao claimed.
This development adds to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s recent legal troubles. Earlier this year, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) initiated a money-laundering and tax evasion inquiry into the singer, revealing that he had earned nearly Rs8 billion over 12 years from local and international concerts.
Additionally, Rahat’s reputation faced scrutiny after a controversial video surfaced, allegedly showing him repeatedly hitting a band member over a missing bottle of liquor. The video caused widespread outrage.
Despite these challenges, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan remains a prominent figure in the music industry, known for his contributions to Bollywood and his extensive global fanbase.
