How much will Abu Dhabi Ports invest in Karachi Port?

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has pledged full support for the implementation of a major agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports, aimed at modernizing Karachi’s port facilities.

During a meeting with Khurram Aziz Khan, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Pakistan, Sharif received details on the planned investments and upgrades.

Abu Dhabi Ports Pakistan is set to invest $250 million over the next decade into Karachi port, with $130 million allocated to build a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility. The new terminal, expected to be completed within two years, will feature advanced access control, automatic gates, and a 200-meter berth extension.

The upgrades are designed to accommodate cargo ships up to 120,000 tonnes, enhancing the port’s capacity and boosting economic activity.

Sharif emphasized the need for improving goods and container management through digital technology and modern machinery. He stressed that the goal of the agreement is to increase transparency, efficiency, and operational performance at the port.

Additionally, the Prime Minister instructed railway authorities to ensure the provision of necessary rolling stock and freight bogies to support the project and improve goods delivery from the terminal. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance port operations and contribute to economic growth in the region.
