Sharjah Airport maintains normal operations amid global cyber outage

UAE residents can now access the services on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) website following a nearly three-hour technical disruption, officials announced.

Earlier, authorities had advised the public to refrain from making any transactions on the online portals due to a “global technical glitch” that affected some electronic systems.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has resumed its online services after a global technical glitch disrupted operations for nearly three hours. The outage affected various online portals, leading to widespread communication and authentication issues.

Global Cyber Outage Impact

The global technical issue, which impacted major institutions worldwide, had initially caused disruptions in UAE government services, including MOFA’s online systems. The disruption also briefly affected Dubai International Airport (DXB) and several other critical services.

Flight Operations Update

Sharjah International Airport confirmed that its flights and services were unaffected by the outage. Dubai International Airport reported a swift resumption of operations after the temporary system outage affected check-in processes at Terminals 1 and 2. Emirates, Flydubai, Air Arabia, and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi have all stated that their flights are operating normally, although some delays might occur due to the ripple effects of the outage.

Crowdstrike’s Role

The disruption was linked to a problematic update from Crowdstrike, a US-based cybersecurity firm. The update, which was incompatible with certain systems, caused widespread crashes. Crowdstrike is known for providing endpoint protection solutions, and its products are utilized by major tech companies, including Microsoft.

Public Advisory

The UAE authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant amid ongoing technical disruptions and to avoid online transactions until systems are fully restored. Customers are encouraged to check the latest updates from service providers for real-time information on flight statuses and other essential services.
