Sharjah ruler increases compensation for homes damaged by April rains

Residents of Sharjah who had their homes damaged by the heavy rains in April will receive increased compensation thanks to a new directive by the Sharjah Ruler, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.

The Ruler announced today that the value of compensation has been raised to Dh50,000 per affected household. This is a significant increase from the previously offered amount.

According to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, 618 applications for compensation have already been approved, with a total of Dh15,330,000 allocated for this purpose. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has directed the Sharjah Social Services Department to ensure the immediate distribution of these funds to the beneficiaries.

This move comes after heavy rains lashed the UAE in April, marking the heaviest downpour in the country in 75 years. In response to the disaster, the Sharjah Executive Council, under the Ruler’s directives, took swift action.

The council had previously announced plans to enhance safety measures and develop proactive plans to manage similar situations in the future. Additionally, they launched a program to provide aid to homeowners affected by the rains. Residents could apply for this assistance through the Sharjah Digital Platform, which also facilitated the issuance of damage assessment reports.

The Executive Council also implemented a one-month grace period for commercial establishments, allowing them to postpone payments for license renewals and violation fees.

Sharjah’s leadership has demonstrated its commitment to supporting its residents during times of need. The increased compensation for damaged homes will provide much-needed financial relief to those affected by the April rains.
