UAE extends passport validity to 10 years for citizens aged 21 and above

The UAE passport authority has officially extended the validity period of Emirati passports to 10 years, a significant increase from the previous five-year validity.

This new service, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), will be available to citizens aged 21 and above starting Monday, July 8, 2024.

Previously, Emirati passports were valid for only five years from the date of issuance. The new 10-year passport service is designed to streamline the process for citizens, reducing the need for frequent renewals. This change supports the government’s efforts to minimize bureaucracy and save time for its citizens.

Major General Suhail Juma Al Khaili, Director General of Identity and Passports at the ICP, clarified that while the 10-year passport is available for citizens aged 21 and above, those under 21 will continue to receive passports with a five-year validity.

The procedure to obtain the new 10-year passports remains the same as the current process, and they will be issued through established channels. Citizens can apply for the extended validity service once their existing passports expire.

This move highlights the UAE government’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience and overall quality of life for its citizens by making the process more efficient and less time-consuming.
