Dubai unveils master plan for longest public beach at Jebel Ali

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, announced the approval of the master plan and designs for the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project on Sunday.

This ambitious project aims to create the longest open public beach in Dubai.

Upon completion, the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project will feature a two-kilometre open beach for swimming, a 2.5km diving sports area, a walkway with viewing platforms, and various recreational and service areas. Covering a total area of 330 hectares, the 6.6-kilometre-long beach will be a hub for beachgoers of all ages.

The beach will be supported by integrated infrastructure, including a two-lane road in each direction, parking for 1,000 vehicles, 80 bicycle racks, a cycling track, and a 5km running track.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that this project is part of a larger master plan to develop public beaches in Dubai, aimed at increasing the total length of beaches by 400%. This initiative includes adding new public beaches, enhancing existing ones, and equipping them with new recreational, sports, aesthetic, and investment facilities, all in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Sheikh Hamdan stated, “The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project is a key part of our commitment to improving the quality of life in Dubai. We are determined to implement the necessary infrastructure and services to make Dubai the best city to live in, providing a healthy environment for residents and visitors.”

Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being Pillar, noted that the project will include a 5km sandy beach developed by Nakheel and a 1.6km mangrove beach developed by Dubai Municipality. The mangrove area, home to a unique ecosystem, will provide habitats for various living organisms and enhance the visitor experience.

The Jebel Ali beach will feature three distinct locations:

  1. The Pearl: Near the entrance of Palm Jebel Ali, this location will be the main center for beach and recreational activities. It will offer a lively family beach, sports activities, a swimming pool, kids’ play areas, a beach club, several restaurants, cafes, shops, and a floating restaurant.
  2. The Sanctuary: This area will prioritize environmental conservation, serving as a haven for turtles while also hosting recreational and sports activities.
  3. The Nest: Situated within the mangrove area, The Nest will be a recreational and educational destination focused on environmental conservation. It will house an environmental center for biodiversity studies, turtle rehabilitation, and awareness programs.

In addition to the Jebel Ali project, a floating bridge will link the two sides of Al Mamzar Beach, announced on June 3. This 200-metre pedestrian bridge, the first of its kind in Dubai, will allow visitors to explore the water without getting wet.

These initiatives are part of Dubai’s broader plan to expand its coastline by 400%, increasing the length of public beaches from 21km to 105km. The city currently has eight public beaches, with some recently revamped to enhance the experience for residents and tourists.
