In the UAE, Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, has intensified efforts to monitor compliance with the Midday Break initiative across the private sector.
The Midday Break, in effect from June 15 to September 15, mandates a ban on outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm to protect workers from extreme summer heat.
Accompanied by ministry officials, Dr. Al Awar recently visited a construction site operated by Binghatti Developers to assess their adherence to safety protocols. The visit aimed to evaluate the provision of shaded areas, adequate cooling systems, and sufficient drinking water for workers, essential measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.
During the inspection, Dr. Al Awar acknowledged Binghatti Developers’ exemplary initiatives in ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment. This includes not only complying with the Midday Break regulations but also implementing additional measures for worker welfare.
Earlier in June, Dr. Al Awar had similarly inspected Sobha Realty’s construction site to review their preparations for the Midday Break. These visits are part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry to enforce safety standards, conduct awareness campaigns, and provide training on heat stress management for outdoor supervisors.
In parallel with the Midday Break, the Ministry is collaborating with government and private sector partners to establish 6,000 rest stations for delivery workers across the UAE. An interactive map has been launched to facilitate easy access to these stations, enhancing the welfare of delivery personnel during hot weather conditions.
The Ministry urges community members to report any violations or unsafe practices related to the Midday Break by contacting their call center or using their website and smart application. These measures underscore the UAE’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its workforce amid challenging weather conditions.
