Residents in the UAE can now obtain residence permits for newborns under the sponsorship of a resident working in the private sector or a free zone, as announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).
This service, available for a fee of AED 350, can be accessed through ICP’s smart channels.
According to the ICP, parents can apply for the residence permit via the ICP website (www.icp.gov.ae) or the smart application (UAEICP) by logging in with a digital ID or username, filling in the required information, and paying the fees. The service is also available at customer happiness centers and approved typing offices.
The ICP specifies that the newborn’s passport must be valid for over a month, and the application must be completed within 120 days of the child’s birth in the UAE to avoid fines.
Required documents include the UAE ID, the original passport of the newborn, a salary certificate, copies of the parents’ passports and Emirates IDs, a birth certificate, an employment contract, a rental contract, health insurance, and a colored personal photo.
The fee breakdown includes AED 100 for the application, AED 100 for issuance, AED 100 for smart services, and AED 50 for electronic services.
The ICP notes that applications will be rejected electronically after 30 days if incomplete and will be entirely rejected if returned three times. Refunds for issuance fees and financial guarantees are processed via credit card within six months or by cheque or bank transfer within five years.
