Authorities in Ajman have issued a warning to residents about a new wave of fraudulent activities targeting unsuspecting individuals through text messages impersonating shipping companies.
According to Ajman Police, these fraudulent messages claim that there are shipments held up and prompt recipients to update their personal information and pay fees to release them.
The scam involves text messages from fake shipping companies, urging recipients to click on links to update their personal details. Ajman Police emphasized the importance of ignoring such messages and avoiding any interaction with them to prevent falling victim to fraud.
“We urge residents not to respond to these fraudulent text messages posing as shipping companies. These messages are designed to deceive individuals into providing sensitive information and making payments,” stated Ajman Police in a social media alert.
This warning comes amidst a rise in vishing (voice phishing) scams where fraudsters pose as authorities like police, the Ministry of Interior, or banks to trick residents into disclosing confidential information. The scams often involve requests to authorize UAE Pass requests, exploiting trust and familiarity to deceive individuals.
Recently, Abu Dhabi Police also cautioned the public about fraudulent calls and counterfeit websites on social media platforms. These schemes exploit current events, activities, and special occasions to entice victims with fake services, offers, and benefits, further underscoring the need for vigilance and caution online.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant, verify the authenticity of messages and calls, and refrain from clicking on suspicious links or disclosing personal information to unknown sources.
