RTA launches mobile renewals for Dubai motorists

Motorists in Dubai can now renew their driving licences and vehicle registrations through their mobile phones, thanks to a new service from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Announced on Tuesday, July 2, this service is specifically available for Samsung users.

By integrating with the RTA app, Samsung users can add their vehicle registration and driving licence information directly to their Samsung Wallet. This feature was part of a new version of the RTA app released in May, which aims to simplify access to RTA services.

The updated RTA app includes a personalized dashboard that consolidates services into one screen, allowing users to renew their vehicle and driving licences and buy parking tickets easily.

The integration of these services eliminates the need for multiple apps, providing a centralized platform for managing transportation-related documents.

Meera Al Shaikh, Director of Smart Services at RTA, emphasized the high standards of security and privacy maintained for all data, highlighting the commitment of both RTA and Samsung to user trust.

She stated, “Through smartphones, we will revolutionise urban mobility and progress towards a digital future, aligning with Dubai’s vision of becoming the smartest city in the world.”

Fadi Abu Shamat, head of the Mobile Experience Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, added, “This integration comes with the assurance of our robust military-grade Knox security suite, underscoring our unwavering commitment to prioritizing security and safeguarding consumer data privacy.”

Last October, RTA introduced the digital nolPay for Samsung users, allowing them to use their smartphones or smartwatches to pay for public transportation in Dubai. This digital nol card can also be used at select retail shops, groceries, public parks, museums, and more, further enhancing the convenience of digital transactions in the city.
