Traffic congestion is expected to significantly ease up following the completion of major roadworks by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Over 130,000 residents and students can now look forward to smoother commutes thanks to the improvements on three key streets: Kuwait Street, 12A Street, and 10C Street.
“We understand that Al Mankhool has been battling heavy traffic for some time now,” said Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency. “To address this challenge, we’ve made some key changes to improve traffic flow and safety.”
So, what exactly has changed? Here’s a breakdown:
- Simpler turns: The junctions at Kuwait Street and 10C Street will now have one lane for right turns and right exits instead of two. This will help reduce congestion and make turning movements smoother.
- Safer U-turns: A dedicated U-turn lane has been added on 10C Street, allowing drivers to make U-turns safely without disrupting traffic flow.
- Improved lane usage: The U-turn on Kuwait Street has been relocated to create a longer storage lane. This will significantly reduce wait times, especially at the busy intersection of Kuwait Street and 12A Street.
“These changes are expected to cut down traffic delays by 30% at the Kuwait Street and 12A Street junction,” explained Al Banna. “This translates to less queuing and shorter waiting times for everyone.”
The project is part of the RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve Dubai’s road infrastructure. By making these improvements in Al Mankhool, the RTA aims to create a more pleasant and efficient driving experience for residents, students, and visitors alike.
