India’s fast track immigration initiative aims to Elenhance travel experience

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing amenities for Indian nationals and OCI passengers arriving from abroad, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Fast Track Immigration — Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The FTI-TTP aims to simplify and secure international travel by providing world-class immigration facilities through an accelerated pathway for international travellers. This programme uses automated gates (e-Gates) to streamline the immigration process, reducing human intervention and expediting clearance.

During the event, Home Minister Shah announced, “This facility will be available free of cost for all passengers.”

The programme is designed to offer faster, smoother, and safer immigration clearance. It will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase will cover Indian citizens and OCI cardholders, while the second phase will extend to foreign travellers.

Initially, the FTI-TTP will be launched at eight major airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Ahmedabad, with plans to expand to 21 airports across India.

Implementation of the FTI-TTP will be managed through an online portal by the Bureau of Immigration, which will serve as the nodal agency for fast-track immigration for various traveller categories.

How the Process Works:

  1. Registration: Travellers must register online on the portal with their details and required documents.
  2. Verification: After verification, a White List of ‘Trusted Travellers’ will be created and integrated into the e-Gate system.
  3. Biometrics: The biometrics of ‘Trusted Travellers’ will be captured at the FRRO office or during their passage through the airport.
  4. Validity: The TTP registration will be valid until the passport expires or for five years, whichever comes first. It can be renewed thereafter.

When a registered passenger arrives at the e-Gates, they will scan their boarding pass and passport, and their biometrics will be authenticated. Once their identity is confirmed, the e-Gate will open automatically, granting immigration clearance.
