UAE weather update: NCM issues red alert due to fog

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) is warning drivers to be extra cautious on the roads this Saturday morning, June 22nd.

Fog is expected to cause low visibility, making driving hazardous.

The NCM issued a red alert, urging residents to be aware of the significantly reduced visibility due to fog. This could worsen at times until 8:30 am.

Abu Dhabi Police Advise Caution:

Abu Dhabi Police are reminding drivers to adjust their speed according to the changing conditions. Follow the information displayed on electronic signs to ensure your safety.

Weekend Weather Forecast:

  • Generally fair to partly cloudy skies are expected across the UAE on Saturday. Clouds may increase in the eastern areas by afternoon.
  • Humid conditions are likely at night and Sunday morning along the coastal areas.
  • Temperatures will remain high, with highs of:
    • 50°C (122°F) in Ghayathi and Al Quaa (with humidity up to 45%)
    • 47°C (116°F) in Abu Dhabi
    • 46°C (115°F) in Dubai

Record-Breaking Heat on Friday:

The UAE experienced its hottest day of the summer so far on Friday, with Mezaira (Al Dhafra region) recording a scorching 49.9°C (121.8°F).

Winds and Seas:

Expect light to moderate winds, occasionally picking up during the day. Seas will be slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

If you must drive early on Saturday morning, be sure to use your headlights and maintain a safe following distance due to the limited visibility caused by fog. Adjust your speed as needed and prioritize safety over reaching your destination quickly.
