In preparation for Eid Al Adha, Abu Dhabi’s slaughterhouses will operate from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm daily to meet the expected surge in demand. The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has announced these extended hours, ensuring that the facilities are available for eleven and a half hours each day throughout the festive week starting June 15.
To handle the increased number of sacrifices, the municipality has significantly expanded the capacity of its slaughterhouses, accommodating approximately 37,000 sacrifices and carcasses. This expansion includes reinforcing the workforce with additional butchers, maintenance crews, and distribution personnel.
Enhanced Facilities and Services
In a bid to provide a comfortable experience for all visitors, the municipality has equipped outdoor areas of the slaughterhouses with air-conditioned tents and shaded pathways. Chilled drinking water will be available, with special attention given to people of determination and senior citizens.
The Abu Dhabi Automated Slaughterhouse at Zayed Port is designated for preparing sacrifices requested by the Red Crescent and through smart applications. Meanwhile, Bani Yas Slaughterhouse and Al Wathba Automated Slaughterhouse will serve the general public, and Al Shahama Automated Slaughterhouse will handle both public and smart application requests.
Increased Workforce
The municipality has increased the number of butchers across all slaughterhouses:
- Bani Yas Slaughterhouse: 150 butchers for around 13,000 sacrifices.
- Abu Dhabi Automated Slaughterhouse: 50 butchers for about 10,000 sacrifices.
- Al Shahama Automated Slaughterhouse: 50 butchers for approximately 7,000 sacrifices.
- Al Wathba Automated Slaughterhouse: 45 butchers for around 7,000 sacrifices.
Each slaughterhouse is staffed with specialized veterinary medical personnel who examine the animals before slaughter and inspect the meat afterward to ensure it is safe for consumption. This rigorous process is designed to produce healthy meat and protect public health.
Smart Applications for Convenient Requests
To make it easier for the public to request sacrifices, the municipality offers several smartphone applications such as “Zabehaty,” “Zabayeh Al Jazeera,” “Dhabayeh UAE,” and “Halal Mazarana.” These apps allow users to select the type, category, weight, cutting preferences, and delivery location for their sacrifices.
Public Advisory
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality urges the public to avoid slaughtering animals outside the approved slaughterhouses, as doing so violates Law No. (2) of 2012, concerning the Maintenance of the General Appearance, Health, and Public Tranquility in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Inspection Directorate teams will monitor and impose fines on violators to ensure compliance and maintain public health standards.
