First shipment of Pakistani mangoes lands in UAE

The long awaited Pakistani mangoes have finally arrived in the United Arab Emirates, and their unique taste and aroma is a great pleasure for mango lovers. The first consignment, which arrived last week, marks the start of Pakistan’s mango season and exports are scheduled to begin on 20 May 2024.

According to Altaf, the first shipment brought in about 192 containers and approximately 4,600 tonnes of Sindhiri variety; he is Managing Director of Mustafa Altaf Hussain Trading Company. The Sindhiri mango, alongside the famous Chanusa variety, is particularly sought after throughout the world due to its high content of pulp and fruit flavour.

Altaf expressed concern about the impact of global climate change on mango production in Pakistan, despite his joy at arriving. “It’s sad to hear that mango production has been affected by climate change, but we are still able to export good quantities into the United Arab Emirates,” he added.

Inflation and increased freight charges have led to a slight rise in the prices of Pakistan’s mangoes this year. In Pakistan, the price of mangoes has increased from 280 to 320 per kilogram. Another industry expert, Yasin, said that freight rates could rise by two to five per cent in the coming months. Currently, on the wholesale market in the United Arab Emirates, a 6 kg box of Sindhi mangoes is sold for Dh28.30.

The supply of Pakistani mangoes continues to be acceptable, despite these difficulties. Retailers and merchants in the United Arab Emirates are looking forward to this season. ‘The Pakistani mangoes are famous for their distinctive taste.’ “They’re loved all over the world,” Altaf told him, pointing out that they are in demand worldwide.
