The Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command has issued a warning to UAE residents regarding a fake job advertisement circulating on social media.
The fraudulent ad, which has duped several unsuspecting victims, promises lucrative job opportunities but ultimately entangles individuals in illegal activities.
In a recent alert posted on their social media accounts, the police outlined the steps of the scam and provided essential tips to help residents avoid falling prey to this deceitful scheme.
How the Scam Works:
- Advertising Fake Jobs Online: Scammers post enticing job advertisements on various social media platforms, attracting job seekers.
- Victims Applying to These Jobs: Unsuspecting individuals apply for these fake positions, hoping for legitimate employment.
- Convincing Victims of Job Tasks: The scammers convince the applicants that their role involves sales management tasks, which include receiving and transferring funds to other bank accounts.
- Offering Rewards: To lure victims further, scammers promise rewards for successfully completed tasks.
- Unknowingly Involving Illegal Funds: The victims carry out these tasks, unaware that they are handling illegal funds, thus implicating themselves in unlawful activities.
Police Recommendations:
- Avoid Such Job Advertisements: Be cautious and verify the authenticity of job offers, especially those that seem too good to be true.
- Seek Legal Action: If you suspect you’ve been victimized, file a report immediately at the nearest police station to initiate legal proceedings.
Colonel Abdullah Al Naqbi, head of the Cybercrime Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, emphasized the importance of vigilance and due diligence when responding to job offers online. He urged residents to always verify the legitimacy of job advertisements and to be wary of any roles that involve handling money transfers.
“Scammers often prey on those seeking employment, especially in uncertain economic times,” said Colonel Al Naqbi. “We urge everyone to be cautious and to report any suspicious job offers to the authorities immediately.”
The police also highlighted the importance of community awareness and encouraged residents to share this information with friends and family to prevent further victimization.
