In a bid to reduce waste and promote sustainability, Dubai is banning all single-use bags, including plastic and paper ones, from June 1.
The Dubai Municipality announced the move, reminding residents that the 25 fils charge for single-use plastic bags will no longer be available after May 31.
As part of a wider policy to phase out single-use products by 2026, the ban aims to encourage consumers to opt for reusable bags and reduce waste. The municipality has outlined rules and fines for non-compliance:
- All single-use bags, including plastic, paper, and biodegradable ones, are banned
- Shops and businesses must provide reusable bags or encourage customers to bring their own
- Fines will be imposed on those who fail to comply with the ban
