Explore UAE’s ‘Blue Residency’ visa: application and eligibility

The UAE has introduced the ‘Blue Residency’ program, offering a decade-long visa to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to protecting our planet in a move towards environmental conservation.

According to Khaleej Times, the initiative announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE is aimed at rewarding and encouraging sustainability champions both within and beyond the country’s borders.

Anybody from all over the globe who has made a substantial contribution to environmental problems is eligible for the Blue Residency; it is not limited to citizens of the United Arab Emirates. Along with well-known activists and scholars in the subject, these also include members of non-governmental organizations and international organizations. Either nominated by appropriate authorities or by direct application through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, applications are accepted.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the vital link between economic prosperity and environmental sustainability, highlighting the urgent need to safeguard our planet for future generations. This move comes as part of the UAE’s commitment to making 2024 the year of sustainability, building on last year’s green initiatives that garnered widespread participation from residents.

Visas for residence in the United Arab Emirates have typically been valid for two years. But since the 2019 launch of the Golden Visa program and the ensuing Green Visa program, the country has taken the lead in providing long-term residence alternatives to a range of individuals and groups, including skilled professionals, investors, entrepreneurs, and now environmental champions.

The Blue Residency is not just a visa; it’s a symbol of recognition for those who tirelessly work towards a greener, more sustainable future. With this bold step, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and sets an inspiring example for the world to follow.
